A friend of mine got herself a turtle and is having a hard time sexing it.. I think it's a male but the front claws are throwing me off... can anyone tell me for sure? also, what type of painted turtle is it?
sorry the pictures are not of best quality but that's all she could give me for now.

It's a male "midland" painted turtle.

I'd say its a male western painted turtle.

It's a male Western Painted turtle, Chrysemys picta bellii. :)
