Do we have to have permits for our tortoises or is this just a zoning issue for this owner?

You don't need a special permit to own an Aldabra. Obviously, they meet the 4" rule requirement. It sounds like they were removed due to unsanitary conditions. Some states do require exotic animal permits if they give them out at all. Aldabras aren't cheap. I'm sure they would be in the house or a heated shed/garage for the winter.

Thanks. I have two and they are very pampered aldabras. We would be sick if a government agency took them away. Ours have a good size amount of land to roam and eat, winter is always tricky with the right lights, etc. If I couldn't keep them in my old age, I would rather transfer them to another experienced keeper.
