Hi all,

I'm curious. Is it okay to expose UVB light to my Big Head Turtle?

I always try to keep them in cool climate, i'm only exposed them to normal light such as the light in my room.

Do they need to bask in the sun? Can they endure the heat of the sun or the UVB?

[:meh]

Thanks before.

I had provided a Bighead with a Megaray bulb, but found that after 3 or 4 days his eyes were swollen and he had become lethargic. I immedietly removed the bulb and everything was status quo again a week or so later. It's important to remember that megacephalum are nocturnal and spend the majority of the day tucked in rocky crevaces. That said, I have observed captive bigheads basking, but suspect that is more of a "learned" behaviour.

The quick answer is no, much like musks, there is very little benefit to providing an MVB/UVB bulb.

@thinkin_feller  : You are right. I'm only use the UVB lamp during the night, usually less than 1 hour. I don't want my big head to be overheated.

Apparently taking care a big headed turtle is pretty straight forward . I read a lot of posting on the forum (my local forum) about dead/dying big headed turtle after 1-2 months in captivity [:meh] So i'm always worried that one day mine would die also. I had mine for 7 months now. And mine is still perfectly healthy.
