I was told this lil fella is a RES but I'd like somebody to confirm since he's not showing any hint of red behind the eyes. I'm new to turtles still and am pretty clueless about identification.

its not a cooter, its a cumberland slider

Not sure about the species; cumberland slider sounds correct though. Not an RES.

Just wanted to chime in a suggestion: you should use bigger rocks or sand instead of the little rocks. I'm a fan of them as well, but the day the turtle gets big enough to eat one, he/she could choke on it.
