When I pick up after feeding my outdoor ornates there is always gobs of little black ants on their left over food. Is this just normal or could this end up being a problem? I just don't want a lot of ants starting to hang around, climbing all over the boxies. Maybe thats ok or not i just don't know.

Don't leave the food out overnight, it draws ants, cockroaches and critters. For the ants, you can spray with a hot-pepper mix to try to keep them away, but they can be pretty stubborn. Do NOT use any kind of pesticide, though, as that is toxic for the turtles.

Connie,
I did a search and found a couple of previous topics about keeping ants out of outdoor turtle enclosures:

http://www.turtletim..._+ants +harmful
http://www.turtletim.../page__hl__ants

If you try any of the methods mentioned, please let us know if they were successful.

thank you to all that gave me such great ideas. my turtles were covered with ants today. Also CINNAMON , ants hate it. I was going to try everything at the same time. But then i wouldn't know which idea worked. So i will start one at a time . I can't wait to share with you what works!!!!
