I just found these turtles but don't know their breeds, the bigger one was found underground and the small one just came out of the egg, I also live by a lake if it helps. thanks

I'm going to say that they're both the same species: Striped mud turtle (Kinosternon baurii). The stripes may not be visible in older turtles. Hopefully one of our "ID experts" will confirm my guess.

That's exactly what they are, the hatchling will not survive in that tank, and the big one could eat it. Id release the bigger one, as they can be hard to acclimate in captivity. For the smaller one, you need very shallow, warm water and a lot of places to hide.

Where are you located? how did you "find" them? Turtles are declining in population everywhere, so please release the adult at least.
