A 10 gallon tank is excellent to start off a few box turtle hatchlings. They spend most of their first year hiding and it is an excellent starter size for them; but it's always recommended to cover the sides (at least half way up) of any aquarium if used to house boxies to lessen stress.

For aquatic turtles, hatchlings to maybe up to 2" shell length max.

Not really. Even if you got a super small breed - stinkpot, etc. - when it's full-sized, 10 gallons would kinda be inhumane. And you could definitely, definitely not put two of any species in a 10 gallon.

Hatchling years excluded, of course.

i would say a 40 breeder tank will hold one maybe two of the smallest turtles but you need to have a 75 gallon for max life quality
