New turtle-what is it?

Hi everyone, I'm teaching in China at the minute and a student recently bought me a pet turtle out of the blue. I've no idea what type of turtle it is so I'm not sure what to feed it/ where to keep it. He said it was a sea-turtle but that might not right.I've posted a few pictures below and any advice is very welcome. It may not be clear in the photos but his (or her) size is about 4 inches long and 2.5 wide. Thanks for the help!

that looks like a female red eared slider by how wide the back of the shell is but def a red eared slider. their a pond turtle species. not too hard to care for just need a large enclosure. easy to find info online on them
