About Me

My interest lies mainly with Eastern, Three-Toed and Gulf Coast Box Turtles, but love and appreciate all turtles and tortoises, even raising a few Common Snapper hatchlings found in bizarre places and releasing them when larger.  I have many years experience with Yellow Foot and Red Foot tortoises.  I also have over 40 years experience with the Box Turtles I mention above and have been gaining experience and knowledge with working with Desert Box Turtles for the past few years.  I have released many Eastern Box Turtle babies into safe State Forest areas and always stop for any turt on the road, immediately releasing it if it not injured.  Injured turts are a whole other issue and should be taken to a wildlife rehabilitationist for proper care, vet care and eventual release.  There are personality differences between all the species of box turtles and I find the Three-Toed Boxies to have the most "charisma."

That is "Buddy" in my avatar, a young male Eastern box Turtle.  Buddy's colorful turtle mug face graces the cover of the 2010 Turtle Times calendar and my huge male Gulf Coast, "Bob", graces the cover of the 2011 Turtle Times Calendar and was also the January turtle.  For 2012, all of you helped to make "Sheila Shnapper" the May turtle (see the main home page of this forum as to ordering the TurtleTimes yearly calender and the Announcement section for yearly participation).  Buddy, Bob and Sheila all say "Thank You" to those of you who voted for them in 2009, 2010 and 2011!
