"An illustration is worth a thousand words
and the combination of pictures, illustrations and
practical knowledge makes this an excellent book
for both the new pet owner and serious hobbyists.
I recommend books to new pet owners on a regular
basis at our web site. Hartmut Wilke's books are among
our favorite suggested references for general
care. This book is no exception." |

Turtles : How to Take Care of Them and Understand
Them by Hartmut Wilke
"This book is our favorite, although a few
years old the illustrations make the book. Great
mixture of photographs, illustrations and
content. It is a great starter book enjoyed
even by experienced hobbyists." - Tyler M

Turtles and Tortoises : Caring for Them, Feeding
Them,
Understanding Them (Family Pet Series)

"This book is the newest version of
Wilke's work which has splendid photographs and
goes well beyond the above mentioned book, but sadly the illustrations
are not as powerful or as plentiful as his
previous book.. This
would have been the Perfect starter book had the illustrations
been of the caliber of his last book. I was
surprised that the Sulcata tortoise was not really
mentioned in this book but none the less, Turtle
Times recommends this as the must have starter
book" - Tyler M.

The
Complete Idiot's Guide to Turtles and Tortoises
(Palika).
by Liz Palika published 1998
"We really enjoyed this book. There is a
lot of quality information in a down-to-earth
style. Sadly the illustrations were primarily
limited to cartoon turtles and limited
photographs. We also would of liked turtle sizes
included for each species listed. It's an
excellent book worth the small price - for both
the new pet owner to the serious hobbyist." -
